The Ffestiniog narrow gauge railway also starts from the town and winds its way down through the magnificent vale of Ffestiniog to the harbour town of Porthmadog. Wonderful golden sandy beaches, mighty castles and the fascinating Italianate village of Portmeirion are all close by whilst the beautiful Trawsfynydd Lake is perfect for fisherman and has a café and a cycle path encompassing the whole lake.
